Country Music From a Different Perspective

We are so excited to be introducing listeners around the world to the music, lyrics and voice of singer-songwriter JP Cates. Decades of performing and writing music has prepared him to record and set out touring his own songs!

JP started out singing with Jazz Vocal Ensembles in High School and College. He also got into theater, especially Music Theater, and starred in may community and Summerstock Productions.

His musical tastes were diverse and he loved singing Rock, Alt Rock and Country. He loved singing songs that told stories, and when he began writing his own songs, they had that element front and center.

JP is a natural, terrific tenor. His love of doing pop-rock music has allowed him to develop a tenor voice that is not often heard in Country.

JP really got into songwriting after his father passed away in 2012. It not only opened him up to expressing his own feelings and sentiments, it was a catalyst for him to go after something he had wanted to do for a while.

Even though JP spent many years supporting his husband, Universal Music/Virgin Records Adult Contemporary Recording Artist Michael Cagle, JP performed all the time. He often won singing contests, gigged, and put together his own country band.

JP dusted off his lyrics and got in the studio early Fall of 2025. He released a few Country Holidays songs in November of 2025, and In January he started releasing his Country Music to very appreciative fans. His first song, JUKEBOX OF REGRET, came out like a bullet, not only scoring high with indy chart that put him in teh top three, but his song has caught on with FM stations in major music markets such as Dallas, Nashville, Jackson, and Kansas City, with the biggest impact being in Jacksonville, Florida.  To round out his first single and exposure he released A very ersonal song fo rhis father called CRASH'S SONG, as well as COME BACK AGAIN and SNOW ON THE MOUNTAIN.

He is excited about his next song for wide release, WRONG TURN, RIGHT TIME, which promoters have already said is going to be another incredible release.  JP is currently on the Stentoneus Record label, and is handled by Kayden Gordon Promotions, LLC.
